  ELDER MEDITATION

    Cheif Seattle, Suqwamish and Duwamish

There is no death,   only a change of worlds."

The Elders tell us of other dimensions, the Spirit World.

The Spirit in our body does not die, it only looks that way to our eyes and our brains.

Some of our Cerimonies allow us to see into the Spirit World.

The Elders tell us this is a Joyful Life Journey

My Creator,

help me to understand

both the seen world and the

unseen world.

Let me not be afraid of the

world You live in.

By Don Coyhis

Spiritualism is a way of life.

It combines philosophy, science

and religion.

It covers a wide field and

therefore one can not expect to

understand it fully without a

certain amount of study.

The primary object of

Spiritualism today is to prove

the survival of the human

personality or soul after death

and that death is only the

doorway to a new and wider life.

From the day of our birth we

each have

attraction in a similar fashion to

that of a baby that is joined to its

mother by a cord before birth.

When the baby is born the cord

must be cut.

When we die the magnetic attraction

is severed in like fashion.

The Material Body

returns to the earth whence it

came, and the Spiritual Body

becomes the vehicle of our

Spirit or soul personality.

Spiritualists believe we are Spirit

here and now !

We don't have to wait until

death to become Spirit.

Death as a rule seems like sleep

- there is no pain.

They believe that when we wake ,

conditions will seem the same to

us as before we "died".

That we take with us into the

"Beyond" no material possessions

such as cloths or money - as they

are no longer needed.

They believe we are the same

individuals immediately after

death as before, with all our

faults and virtues.

Spiritualists also believe that the

home that awaits us in the Spirit

World depends upon the life we

have led here on earth.

If we have honestly tried to do

the best we can, then we need

have no fear of death.

We have fitted ourselves for

the result which is automatic,

a better, happier life where we

are reunited with our loved ones

and family of friends.

If on the other hand, there has

been more selfishness

than goodness and service

in our lives, they believe

we will automatically have to

pay the price also.

This is  the part of the law of

sowing and reaping, which is only

another way of saying that effect

must follow cause.

Acts of service that we have

performed will naturally increase

or spiritual status. Sins of omission

or commission will just as

naturally retard it.

Spiritualist believe that

"there is no Hell"

in which its inhabitants are

condemned for eternity.

Once self - realization dawns and

the soul is ready to advance,

there are enlightened spiritual

beings who will show the way

to progress.

The practical application of

Spiritualism is the supreme

necessity for all of us to lead

the best kind of life we can on

earth, to practice

qualities of compassion and

kindness and to give service

wherever we can.

Heaven and hell they believe are

really states of mind, not

geographical locations.

Even here we can live in Heaven

or Hell, "the choice is ours".

The world we inhabit after death

is not far away up in the sky.

It is around and about us,

interpenetrating the world in

which we now live.

Those we have

"Loved and Lost"

are not in some far - off,

inaccessible place, seated on pink

clouds at the right hand of God

and playing harps.

Very often they are close by our

sides, striving to help and guide

us, and loving us just as they did

before passing.

The evidence provided by

Spiritualism reveals that Love,

like life, is stronger than death.

It is love that proves to be the

compelling force, striving to

break down the barriers,

which man in his ignorance

has created, between this

world and what is called

the Next, in order to achieve

spirit communication.

Often there is grief on

both sides of the veil.

There are tears shed over loved

ones who have died and the grief

  "they" experience when they try

to reach us, but fail to make their

presence known.

There are many spheres of

existence that are invisible to us

because they function in a

different manner from earth.

Millions of Vibrations of sound

are lost to us because they are

outside the range of normal

hearing and millions of vibrations

of light fail to be registered on

our minds because they are

beyond the range of our eyes.

Microphones and radio receivers

enable us to hear what is

normally beyond the range of

our ears.

The telescope and television will

bring into focus what is beyond

our vision.

The inhabitants of the spirit world

are very real even though we

cannot hear or see them.

But there are, however highly

sensitive individuals who have

developed their innate natural

psychic faculties with the result

that they can tune into the spirit

world and its denizens.

These human television and radio sets are

"Mediums".

They become the agents through

whom spirit communication is

achieved.

There is nothing Supernatural

about this happening, though it

is supernormal.

Everything in the Universe is in

accordance

to "Natural Law".

Spiritualism is not as is commonly

believed,a sinister cult meeting

in darkened rooms to

"call up the dead"

but an officially recognized

religious movement with its own

Churches and Ministers, who

posses the same rights and

privileges as other religions.

Proof of Survival.

Spiritualism is in itself a religion

in that it embodies that there is

a life after death, an immortality

and the existence of a God.

The difference between

Spiritualism and other religions is

the ability through

mediumship to prove that man

survives the grave; that is to say

certain people called Mediums

are able to communicate with

those who have passed over,

thus furnishing conclusive

evidence of their continued

existence in another world.

Very similar as the one we live in

now , only more perfect.

Medium cannot call up these

people, as they would a friend

on a telephone- they come to us,

but only when they are ready,

and willing and able so to do.

Who are these mediums?

They are highly sensitive people

who developed their psychic

power-which each of us posses

to a greater or less

degree-woman's intuition is an

example.

Some are born mediums, other

take years to develop, while

others, through ignorance

or lack of opportunity of

development are

unable to exercise their gifts.

The Philosophy of Spiritualism

is based on

Seven Fundamental Principles

(with Liberty of Interpretation.)

1. The Fatherhood of God.

2. The Brotherhood of man.

3. The Communication of Spirits

    and Ministry of Angels

4. The continuous Existence of

    the Human Soul.

5. Personal Responsibility.

6. Compensation and Retribution

hereafter for all the Good and Evil

    Deeds done on Earth

7. Eternal Progress Open to every

    Human Soul.

Spiritualists are often accused

of being atheists or Anti- Christian,

yet our first Principle recognizes

God as our Father-but who is God.

It says in the Bible in John 4 :24.

that God is Spirit and those who

worship him, must worship him

in Spirit and Truth.

We do not regard him /her as a

nebulous person sitting on a throne,

but an Infinite Power embodied in

all that is good and beautiful in

our World, the greatest factor

in the universe and the controlling

force of all nature.

Not Anti-Christian.

Spiritualist are not anti-Christian

any more than they are anti-Jew,

anti-Hindu, or anti-Moslem.

Spiritualism is universal religion

recognizing such Leaders as

Buddha, Mohammed, Moses as well

as Jesus. We do not however,

claim a monopoly of Religion.

One's religion is a personal matter

and any person adopting

Spiritualism is Free to interpret

the Principles according to

their own awareness.

Another major difference

between Spiritualism

and orthodox Christian religion

is embodied in our Fifth Principle.

Personal Responsibility.

We do not accept that Jesus died

on the cross to save us from

our sins.

We hold that no one can do

this but ourselves.

We are given Freewill and the

ability to distinguish between

right and wrong and we alone are

responsible for all our thoughts

and actions.

What the church calls sin we

regard as the violation of the

divine laws by God, which

Paul interpreted when he wrote

"whatsoever a man soweth that

shall he also reap."

Man alone must atone for these

"sins" and not shirk his

Responsibilities.

God is not Vindictive.

Further, we do not believe in

a Vindictive God sitting in

Judgment over us.

We are our own judges here and

now, and we shall receive

Compensation or Retribution for

what ever we have done,

whether good or bad Heaven

and hell are not places to which

we are destined to go, but states

of mind of our own creation.

We do not automatically become

Spiritual when we leave this world.

We shall in fact retain our Earthly

Characteristics while the

opportunity will be given

throughout eternity to make

Spiritual Progress and so undo

any wrongs we committed on

Earth, for both Free-Will and

Personal Responsibility will still

be with us in the other World

to come.

Man is a Spirit now within a

mortal body.

Death is but the parting of the

ways- our body to decay but our

Spirit to live on in a new

environment.

If Death were the end of

everything life would merely have

material motive, whereas the

knowledge of a future existence

gives life a Spiritual motive

and purpose beyond mere physical

existence.

We are living in a material

scientific age in which orthodox

religion had lost its impact.

Any religion therefore which can

successfully overcome this

materialist influence must be

scientific--and Spiritualism is just

that.

It has turned the pious hope of the

hereafter into a scientific fact. the

advent of the Spirit of man into

this world and in the course of

time, his transition to another

world is a scientific fact proved

by Mediumship.

Religion has been defined as Faith

without Science-and Science as

Faith without religion.

Spiritualism embodies science, faith

and religion, unfettered by Dogma

or Creed.

Spiritual Healing.

Among the greatest forces of

Spiritualism is Healing the sick

either by personal contact

-"The laying of Hands"-

or through absent healing, in

which the patients are treated

often at great distances away

- by the sending out healing

thoughts and Prayers.

The so-called miracles of

Healing performed by Jesus

and his disciples are regularly

performed by Spiritual Healers

today. Many incurable diseases

have been successfully treated.

No healer can guarantee a cure,

but at least he can alleviate

suffering and ease a passing,

and possibly effect a complete

cure.

Spiritual Healing

is not Faith Healing.

Patients have been treated

without their knowledge as by

Absent healing,or through being

to ill or , too young to understand.

We do not expect you to accept

these things blindly but we do

invite you to prove our claim for

yourself by visiting a Spiritualist

Church and forming your

own conclusions.

At Spiritualist Church services

worship and teachings of

Spiritualism forms a part of the

service with the addition that the

medium endeavors to bring

those on the other side who may

wish to contact

their relations or friends who may

be in the congregation.

This is the real meaning of the

"Communication Of Saints"

( Spirits)

and the Life Everlasting.
